A:
Anaphylaxis:
1) caused by IgE-immune mediated release of mast cells and basophils
2) needs sensitization (first exposure: Ag, triggers body to produce IgE which attaches to mast cells)
3) reacts on 2nd and succeeding exposures (Ag attaches to IgE which triggers mast cells to release histamines and other mediators)

Anaphylactoid:
1) caused by non immune mediated release of mediators or complement activation
2) no sensitization
3) reacts on first exposure
Similiarities:
- both are acute systemic reaction (clinically similar)
- both release mast cells and basophils
- similar treatment
