Commonly Prescribed Drugs

Hyperthyroid
1. Carbimazole 20mg OM (if allergic, give PTU 50mg BD)
2. Propranolol 10mg OM

Hypothyroid1. Thyroxine (Euthyrox) 50mcg OM

Digoxin (eg CHF from Aflutter)
250mcg x 1 hour, can repeat

Menorrhagia
IM Progesterone 50mg

Norethisterone 10mg BD 10/7
Tranexamic Acid 1g TDS PO 1/52
+/- mefenamic acid 500mg tds 1/52
famotidine 20mg BD 1/52

Necrotizing Fasciitis
Carbapenem or beta lactamase inhibitor + clindamycin 600-900 mg IV q8h

Carbapenem (Imipenem, meropenem or ertapenem)
Beta lactam (Pip/Tazo, Ampi/Sulbactam, Ticarcillin/Clavulanate)

- if allergic, can give aminoglycoside or a fluroquinolone, plus metronidazole

Prostate Enlargement, Acute Retention of Urine
Alfuzosin (Xatral) 1omg ON x 7 days (until TCU Urology)
Cipro 500mg BD x 7 days
Lactulose 10mls TDS prn

Piles, Haemorrhoids
DIOSMIN 450MG HERSPERIDIN 50MG Take 2 tablet(s) three times a day
FYBOGEL SACHET ORANGE Take 1 packet(s). BD
LACTULOSE SOLUTION 200 ML Shake the bottle and take 2 x 5ml spoonful three times a day 7.000
BOTTLE LIGNOCAINE HCL JELLY 2% W/W 10ML Use as directed by your doctor twice a day 2.000 TUBE
+/- diltiazem cream
